During today's joint meeting of users/teaching&learning, Peter demonstrated adding widgets to a page in Sakai 3.0. Going forward, this will include things like a single discussion thread, or a cluster of files--you can embed relevant items on your page rather than hunt for them in the Discussion or Resources Tool. These boxes that encapsulate what was previously in tools are currently being called "vignettes." The vignettes for Discussion, Files (previously Resources), Assignments, and Blogs are being designed this month, as they will be a part of the release that Cambridge and Georgia Tech uses this summer.
I am working on Files vignette designs and am trying to gather input on the tasks involved in creating a vignette, as well as specific contextual scenarios in which those tasks might occur. I think we have a good start on some realistic tasks and scenarios, but then again, we haven't gotten any feedback from users.
Over the next 7 days, I am encouraging you to review specific tasks and scenarios involved in adding and viewing files in a vignette. If you see something missing, or if you thinks something's off, please comment or add rows to these pages.
