For most of the boys it will not make a difference one way or another. 6
Hours on one service project or 3 hours each on two entries will still be 6
credit hours.
The boys that will make a difference is the Tenderfoot and 2nd Class scouts.
To become a 2nd class the boy must.
"Since joining, have participated in five separate troop
<
http://meritbadge.org/wiki/index.php/Troop> /patrol
<
http://meritbadge.org/wiki/index.php/Patrol> activities (other than
troop/patrol meetings), two of which included camping overnight."
If a boy went on 3 campouts and an Eagle Project that took place on two
separate days he would meet this requirement. If he went on 3 campouts and
an single Eagle Project that took place over 2 days but was only credited as
a single project, he would not meet this requirement.
The same logic can be applied to the scout who is 2nd Class working on 1st
Class, the requirement reads.
Since joining, have participated in ten separate troop/patrol activities
(other than troop/patrol meetings), three of which included camping
overnight.
If you had 3 projects that involved multiple days, the way that you recorded
might take months off of the time that a boy could advance from Scout to 1st
Class.
I am not saying that either of these ways are right or wrong, but it does
make a big difference how you record them.

Subject: [TMTUG] Service Project Hours
Question for the group. When we enter service project hours for the boys
who have worked on Eagle Projects, we're not sure what is best, to enter the
time as a total at the end of the Eagle project or to enter them on the days
that the work is done. I know its important to enter the time on the day
its done since some ranks need service hours to be completed while in that
rank. Is there a way to enter this multiple dates for one entry in
activities? The manual really doesn't talk about this one.
