RFI Trinidad and Tobago in NovemberBirdchatters,
I have organized a group of my friends to take a trip to Trinidad and Tobago over Thanksgiving this year. That's rapidly approaching! I've done a bunch of Google searches for trip reports in that time frame, as well as done an eBird search for the same. I've come up with only scant information for that time frame and I wondered if any of you have experience to offer? We're doing the usual tours of Asa Wright on Trinidad and their fieldtrips, then Cuffie River Lodge on Tobago and theirs. Do any of you want to offer insights or advice for the trip? Any and all would be appreciated. Thanks a bunch Laurie Foss Austin, TX BirdChat Guidelines: http://www.ksu.edu/audubon/chatguidelines.html Archives: http://listserv.arizona.edu/archives/birdchat.html |

Re: RFI Trinidad and Tobago in NovemberHi --
We went to Trinidad and Tobago in November, that was a dozen years ago but I am sure the birding will be very similar. The only negative about the time was that the Red-billed Tropicbirds were on Little Tobago island. We stayed for some time at Asa Wright, then went over to Tobago and stayed at Blue Waters Inn, then back to Trinidad and stayed then at the PAX Guest House for a few days. This is because PAX is close to the main road and better for accessing sites such as Nariva Swamp. Since we were in Trinidad, there is a new lodge on the north coast where you can stay and see the Trinidad Piping Guan, the only endemic species. There are other good birds there as well. Assume you have a copy of Bill Murphy's bird-finding guide to T&T. It will get you everywhere you want to go! Re: RFI Trinidad and Tobago in November We visited Trinidad and Tobago in November 2004, staying at the Asa Wright Nature Centre on Trinidad and at the Blue Waters Inn on Tobago. Unfortunately I didn't write a trip report but we had great birding on both islands. On Tobago we journeyed over to Little Tobago and had wonderful views of Red-billed Tropicbird. I am sure that you will have an enjoyable time. The guides we used on Trinidad were Rudal and Dave Ramlal, a father and son team. Dave picked us up at about 03:00h one morning to go up to Grande Riviere where we saw four Trinidad Piping Guans. Both guides were superb. Our guide on Tobago was quite mediochre and lacking in personality. Not surprisingly I cannot remember his name!
