I've played with this in the past, I think you need just a little tweaking
(not very sure, but they might be 2.x compatible, so you have to do some
tweaks for 3.x).

About your second problem, I'm not very sure what you want, but you can take
a look at this to see how you can create static pages like "about" and
others:

Ofcourse, I think you have to provide the full backend code for collecting
the emails. The comments logic could come in handy here...
