Re: "Take my wife ( cross out wife ) site, please!"It's been pointed out to me that I'm truely not a programmer. In an
effort to stop embarrassing myself any longer, I was hopping someone would like to take over and re-write the colorForthRay.info site. Charles Childers is the gracious and generous host, and really, I hope Charles takes it, re-writes it and puts it under one of his good domains like ForthFreak. I'm truely sorry for having wasted 10+ years of time doing this, and 5years or so of wasteing your time with IRC, C.L.F, and colorForth Mailing List posts, some of which obviously show that i just might not be thinking properly. For those that are concerned, the meds are working fine. Some of you may be interested in some of the colored forth things i've collected over the years and they will be available for several days before I destroy it all. Yours for the asking. Re: "Take my wife ( cross out wife ) site, please!"Ray, if you feel you've wasted your time that's your choice, but you
haven't wasted anybody else's, and your site helped me immeasurably when I was getting started with colorForth. I'm not "truly" a programmer either, but I don't let it stop me from enjoying it, or even making money from it now and then. Your domain doesn't expire until September, so I don't see what's the rush. I'd like to get a chance to mirror it before you destroy it, but I'm busy with other projects right now and can't get to it for a while. Could you maybe take a few deep breaths, decide you don't give a 5#1t about what others think of your programming abilities, and leave your site up for the edification of all? If it's hosting fees that are causing the shutdown I can kick in a few bucks this coming payday, if you have a PayPal account. Ray, remember that the internet is sadly full (and, it seems, getting fuller) of unpleasant people who operate under the delusion that tearing down the work of others is as good as producing their own. They are wrong, and they are deeply flawed people, and your efforts have not at all been wasted or unwelcome. Even if you decide not to share any of your work in public - and given what people are like, who can blame you? - please don't give up something that gives you pleasure just because someone else expresses disdain. Re: "Take my wife ( cross out wife ) site, please!"Quoting "Ray St. Marie" <ray.stmarie@...>:
>... " It's been pointed out to me that I'm truely not >... " a programmer. Dear Ray, The instant positive response by John Comeau and others on this thread ought to reassure you. Your version of CF01 on Tim Neitz's site is packed with good things, and your image of Josh Grams CF05 helped me boot CF05. Don't let critics put you down - ColorForth is fun and an intellectual exercise, just the thing for keeping up one's spirit in illness. A similar crisis occurred in Linux: a parting between the "real" programmers who went soaring up into the stratosphere, and the less talented but equally "real" programmers engaged in documentation and spreading the word. That's how user-friendly versions like Ubuntu and Puppy Linux were born. There is a wide spectrum in the Open Source movement. Every best is only a best within parameters. Here are some quotes: "The boy works hard but has no talent" - MichaelAngelo on Raphael. "A good man, pity he never learnt to be a real painter" - ElGreco on MichaelAngelo. "Sit we ever so high, we can only sit on our own rear ends" - Montaigne. Re: "Take my wife ( cross out wife ) site, please!"My 6yo just asked me why I always have that "colorforthray" website
open. 'Always' is a bit of an exaggeration, but it is often open in a tab somewhere for reference. I've mirrored the site under forthworks.com, and will setup a community site based on its contents by early summer. I appreciate the work you put into it and hope that you will continue to help support those using colorforth in the future, though I can understand if you choose not to. > I'm truely sorry for having wasted 10+ years of time doing this, and > 5years or so of wasteing your time with IRC, C.L.F, and colorForth > Mailing List posts, some of which obviously show that i just might not > be thinking properly. Thank you for ignoring my obvious ego trip and saying these things to me. It is very nice to know one's time and output is appreciated. John I too have looked to your work as well, and you have pointed me to the right place on more then one occassion. :-) Now as to making money... :-) I'm going to try to get on disablilty, as I seem to be unemployable. I sometimes daydream about coding for a living. > > Your domain doesn't expire until September, so I don't see what's the > rush. I don't give a FivePoundOneTango ( lol 5#1t) about what others think of my programming abilities or lack there of and will do as you say and leave the site up as long as Charles Childers will allow. I assume this is in keeping with how Charles feels about it as well. Now if you really wanna help someone with cash, send it to Charles so that he can keep affording to host these wayward forth projects. I know he has Paypal and ususally has a donation link at his site, somewhere. Or heck, John, you have been hosting projects as well. Hosts should receive. :-) > > -- > John Comeau <jc@...> http://jc.unternet.net/ > "A place for everything, and everything > all over the place" > > --------------------------------------------------------------------- > To unsubscribe, e-mail: colorforth-unsubscribe@... > For additional commands, e-mail: colorforth-help@... > Main web page - http://www.colorforth.com > > Color me back, Ray -- Raymond St. Marie ii, colorforthray.info --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: colorforth-unsubscribe@... Isn't it true. I suppose i've been pretty isolated, even after so many many years online. I like to think that everyone is on a path to becoming and that the deeply flawed even more so. I know that I am deeply flawed. Its very kind of you to say these things to me, even after such an obviously egotistical "jumping fit" that I had. I lost by turning off my computer for many weeks. I knew you and others had written to me... and was at a loss as to how to proceed... Thank you. > > Even if you decide not to share any of your work in public - and given > what people are like, who can blame you? - please don't give up > something that gives you pleasure just because someone else expresses > disdain. After all, if everyone trying to learn their instrument gave > up the first time someone told them to "shut that racket up", there > would be no music... ( I'm reminded of step mom when I was an early guitarist. ) I will continue. I suppose the re-write i'm taking about for colorForthRay.info will be about the new colorForth2.0a. Have you tried playing with this yet? I've been reading it all and trying to figure out if the USB will work for me with out haveing tried that code yet. Floppy works and the Windows version is congruent with the native... this is a good time to be a colorCoder. :-) > > Regards, and best wishes > Gwenhwyfaer > > > --------------------------------------------------------------------- > To unsubscribe, e-mail: colorforth-unsubscribe@... > For additional commands, e-mail: colorforth-help@... > Main web page - http://www.colorforth.com > > Thank you again and I love that Gwenhwyfaer spelling. You are absolutly right, Nick! Time to man up. Oh! yeah, I've always wanted to mention to John about that MultiViewer on Tim's CFO1-MTCF multi-tasking colorforth image... When John was going over how to "print" colorForth text I always wanted to tell him... Hey, John Ray here That multiviewer should give you some hints as to how Howerd "printed" all of the characters in his Editor, but with out all the fancy stuff. That multi-viewer is just the guts to the print routine that would print any block just as it appears using any of the colors or sizes of letter available to the system. I will do a version for cF2.0a soonest. Not able to just lift if of the one image and put it on the other with out some... Wait... I should be able to just transfer it over, keeping in mind that the Appelmen-Neitz Small fonts will have more characters per block so those blocks could be reformated to fit on reg-Fonts implementations. > > A similar crisis occurred in Linux: a parting between > the "real" programmers who went soaring up into the > stratosphere, and the less talented but equally "real" > programmers engaged in documentation and spreading the > word. ( They are unconscious, always.) Using the original meaning of the word SIN, I fear that I have "missed the point", gone into my unconscious, spat conditioned responses, and forgot totally that I get to be a colorCoder. Forgot totally that I get to be a colorCoder with you. Thank YOU Nick! No not eunick, You, Nick. Thank you! You remind me... "It takes a man with a lot of "cahones"(sp?) to stand up to himself." -- unknown as far as I know. "If I had no ego, I wouldn't be in this predicament." -- come on, somebody had to have said that before me, right? "Attention K-mart Shoppers, Wake UP! and smell the blue light special" -- this is getting embarrassing but I can't help myself. It goes on and on much like the same so in an effort to not continue...
