There is nothing wrong with paying for software.  For what it costs vs
the effort put into it, it's cheap.

I 'charge' £8 for Kernow, which if you are lucky will buy you 2 pints
in London, however a lot of people still think that is expensive.

I guess its because of the wealth of free software out there, and the
age of the 59p app.  Talking of which I just had to pay £60 to renew
my annual Apple Developer subscription, just to ensure my iOS app
remains on the app store.  They certainly don't mind charging for
things, and no one seems to complain.

A bit of a waffle there, but you get hopefully you get my point.
