As a reminder : I have also this issue.

KDE 4.2.96
Latest kernel/udev/...
once KDE is started, everything is mute and at 100% level, so I have
to unmute the different sink and decrease the level. However Front is
very low, so I have to increase front, whereas PCM is at 100%.
