You're welcome for the patch. As I play I'll probably submit more, so at
least you'll have a few more mockups to look at :)
One of the main uses of YAFT here is in supporting communities of small
business users. For this bunch, logical navigation around lots of
discussions is crucial. They also like good visual indicators of read
and new messages. They also seem to exclusively use the compact view as
the flow of the discussion is far more apparent. What you say about
breaking Discussions out of the widget makes sense to me. I like the
idea of embedding discussions into the flow of course materials, but
currently the full discussion being rendered breaks the materials rather
brutally. A link which pops up a draggable layer with the discussion
would make more sense, IMHO. If we also had a widget which actually
gathered all of the discussions of relevance to the context (site or
whatever), based on tagging, into a more traditional discussion tool
interface that would give the best of both worlds, again IMHO.
So maybe two discussion widgets, big widget and little widget :)
