You've got GRRREAT class~ Two thumbs up for you. let's not forget this is NOT a support email address for squirrelmail, this is a mailing list for squirrelmail users and fortunately some developers are also listening and responding. And all you get is FREE support, so nobody here is a 'costumer'. To my experience you may get help with your problems here if you kindly ASK for it. Just throwing in something without further explanation is not any kind of asking. So if you want to get some help here, EXPLAIN what is going wrong and ASK what can be done. Give the list some facts like version of your used software. If you're not willing to do so, just leave this list and look for another (preferably non free) software. There you may get support if you pay for it, even if you're asking in this rude manner... Re: [Fwd: squirrel mail sucks]Free software that's part of the terms of the GPL and is stated as "Not fit for purpose". Therefore I can’t believe it can guarantee emails like yours. If you use open source software then this is the risk. If you implement it you much be able to fix and problems yourself. It you do not know how it works, how to code in the language then don't install and use it commercially! All the comments and questions you post bellow unfortunately show a lack of understanding on your part Jenny. I personally love this software and I am genuinely impressed and appreciative of the work the SM team put into it. Having said this I would like to say that the

with the version 1.4.19 has left me feeling a little bit bruised. A
general warning

not to
invest time in the upgrade. Thanx go out to Rafael Martinez for the bugfix. jenny@... wrote: You are also an IDIOT! Great show of service, Jawed! Didn't u know customers are always right? > > You are also an IDIOT! > Great show of service, Jawed! > Didn't u know customers are always right? > > Squirrel Mail sucks even MORE now because of you. This is a public mailing list and every opinion here is made by an individual writer and not necessarily by the SquirrelMail Project (i.e. if it's not sent by <someone@...> it's a personal opinion). Anyone in the world is allowed to mail to the list about SquirrelMail related issues. The tone on the list should be respectful and polite. I don't want to see any flame wars or trolling here. Please refrain from calling each other names, since that's not constructive or polite. SquirrelMail is free software written by volunteers, so we have no customers at all in a traditional sense. Anyone is free to install and use the software we wrote, but they have to take responsibility for is themselves. That responsibility includes branding the installation with their own name and to provide support for the users using such an installation. > The administrator explanation I can understand. I don't have a strong > administrator that can help with my email interface problems - that's it. I'm sorry to hear that you don't have a system administrator to help you out. Could it be that the system administrator belongs to your ISP? I take it you didn't install SquirrelMail (which is the web interface only and not the entire service) yourself, so you need to find the person/organisation who did and have them help you out. If you don't know who that is I suggest that you "follow the money". My guess is that you're paying someone for an e-mail and web hosting service. That person/organisation is the one who should help you - after all you're paying for it. (My _guess_ is that you're bying service from <net-chinese.com.tw> or <hinet.net>.) > But your comment is absolutely outrageous! > > Thanks a lot! You've got GRRREAT class~ Two thumbs up for you. I'm sorry that someone offended you, Jenny. I can assure you that it's not an official SquirrelMail Project representative. The Squirrelmail Project has no customers and doesn't provide 'service' to anyone, and I really mean _anyone_ at all. While the analogy may be complex for you, your conversation on this list is like this - You make fantastic home-made cookies and give away the recipe for free online. Someone takes your recipe, uses arsenic instead of sugar, makes them too small, burns them and makes someone sick. That sick person complains loudly and publicly that your cookies suck that it's your fault they're sick and you had better make it right. You say that you didn't make the cookies, don't know who did and that baker did it wrong, so go complain to the baker. Your friends and neighbors also send their personal commentary to the sick person about how silly they are for complaining to the recipe creator... The sick person now says that your neighbor should have provided better support for your recipe and that sick people are always right. Try to understand that analogy and you'll understand why you're getting the reaction you are. > Squirrel Mail sucks even MORE now because of you. Personally, I think it's fantastic. Presumably the e-mail program you've written in your spare time and given away for free for anyone to install and use is fantastically better. Can we see it and use it? Squirrel Mail issues with large inboxes
Hello everyone,
I am sure more people have had issues with this and perhaps some of your solutions could be shared with me. I am using SM version: 1.4.10a If a user as an inbox of more than 2000 messages it may take SM 1 + minutes to load. Sometimes it will give the folloing error message:
Is there a recommended amount of email to be held in the inbox? (I can run an archiving script to cleanup everyones inboxes moving old mail to archive folders) or are there some settings I can tweak to make squirrelmail load faster and without errors after logging. Again this slowness only occurs after the initial login. After squirremail has loaded the inbox it works well. Thanks, [pslaghekke.vcf] begin:vcard fn:Piet Slaghekke n:Slaghekke;Piet org:Hampshire Educational Collaborative adr:;;97 Hawley Street;Northampton;MA;01060;United States email;internet:pslaghekke@... title:Network & Systems Administrator tel;work:1-413-586-4900 Ext. 157 note:office hours: M,T,Th,F 9am-6:15pm x-mozilla-html:TRUE url:www.collaborative.org version:2.1 end:vcard ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Crystal Reports - New Free Runtime and 30 Day Trial Check out the new simplified licensing option that enables unlimited royalty-free distribution of the report engine for externally facing server and web deployment. http://p.sf.net/sfu/businessobjects ----- squirrelmail-users mailing list Posting guidelines: http://squirrelmail.org/postingguidelines List address: squirrelmail-users@... What how are the emails stored on the server (e.g., mbox or mdir)? Is your IMAP server sorting your emails or passing them unsorted and having Squirrelmail do it? Background: we used Dovecot initially with mbox format. The first time we would try to view mail in a directory with over 20K message in it would time out. The next time it would not. Why, Dovecot had to build a set up indexs for that folder which required all mails to be read and it took too long and the php.ini timeout was reached. Switching to Maildirs helped a lot. Details matter. Please provide them. Thanks. ------ William R. I have a lot of filters, but I put them on the server using procmail, so my inbox loads quickly. I know the Squirrelmail filters are for individual users, but are they for users without OS-level access? I've never implemented the SQM filtering. That means that it's going to ask your imap server to search all 2000+ messages every time you go into the inbox, or refresh the left frame. >and then load correctly after a page refresh. >Is there a recommended amount of email to be held in the inbox? After >squirremail has loaded the inbox it works well. Look in the config/config.php and search for plugins, and see if you have one defined for filters. If you do, disable the filters plugin (put // at the beginning of the line) and see if you get an improvement. -- Jonathan Angliss <jon@...> ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Crystal Reports - New Free Runtime and 30 Day Trial Check out the new simplified licensing option that enables unlimited royalty-free distribution of the report engine for externally facing server and web deployment. http://p.sf.net/sfu/businessobjects ----- squirrelmail-users mailing list Posting guidelines: http://squirrelmail.org/postingguidelines List address: squirrelmail-users@... Re: [Fwd: squirrel mail sucks]Thanks, Marc! Jawed and I worked things out regarding the comment.
You're right. From the email responses, SquirrelMail seems like a pretty tight program with talented group of people behind it... just my version is VERY limited & restricted. It's very frustrating! ROAR!!! Anyway, I'll try to follow what Frederik has suggested to resolve my situation. Re: [Fwd: squirrel mail sucks]Thanks, Roland. Understand. Everyone has been quite helpful. I apologize
for the unkind comments under frustration. I do lack full understanding of what Squirrel Mail does. I need to start attacking our administrator. (hehe j/k) Appreciate the pointer.
