We already have a backup tool.

It is important to encourage users to execute
due diligence for their own good.

What do you suggest ?

At least on Linux we have some scripts ready to go. However as always these
scripts assume that you have some kind of knowledge on administration.

Future version could potentially create sophisticated user friendly backup
tools.

On Windows we don't have something ready to go.

Here is something for the moment

http://wiki.postgresql.org/wiki/Automated_Backup_on_Windows

There is a number of specialized tools for the job as well

One is

http://www.arkeia.com/en/products/arkeia-network-backup/backup-agent/database-
agent/postgresql-agent

Feel free to suggest a user friendly backup solution which could be
implemented later.

Sebastian

These scripts (with minor adjustment) also work on Mac OS.

Chances are they also work on Windows since all the do is call binaries.

However I guess a single doctor practice wishes for push-button-backup-and-
restore.

This problems feeds a whole industry :-)

I strongly suggest GNUmed not concern itself with such things.

There's any number of suitable backup solutions available.

On Debian, the server packages Recommends: or even Depends: on
a bunch of them - and the scripts are installed ready to go thanks
to Andreas.

I agree.  Howerver GNUmed affiliated companies or free time enthusiats could add
value to GNUmed by offering tailored solutions ready to go.

One really easy way to do it would be a wxpython based gui which would ask for
backup destination and stuff. This would create a config file and a batch file
which would be dropped on the harddisk and be run.
