I think they're orthogonal. My understanding of all of those mechanisms is that their goal is to take a non-URI identifier (e-mail address, domain name, whatever) and get data / metadata about it.

This is just a document format, to be given a URL. Of course, you could point at it with a non-URL, but like I said, that's orthogonal.
