Hey Anshul,

Now that is way cool. And you don't NEED a dot account for that, just write
something and send it ;-)

But making a dot account will put the article on your name ;-) You can go to
dot.kde.org, on the top-right of the page you can make an account.

We have seen the cool stuff the Mandriva ppl are doing, especially on Nepomuk
integration. Stuart Jarvis is working on an article about this, soliciting
input from Laura Dragon and Sebastian Trueg, two lead developers on Nepomuk.

However, there is more to Mandriva than Nepomuk, including their work on their
own theme and specific KDE tools. So if you are up to writing about the other
things, that would rock.

How about this:
- we skip this one, after all 2010 has been out for a while already and ppl
are most likely aware of that.
- YOU write an article on the new Mandriva 2010 and it's cool features.
- and Stuart writes about the work on Nepomuk.

Your article should obviously focus on KDE integration in Mandriva. You can
mention there will be a Nepomuk-specific article in a few weeks. But the small
touches like hourly changing wallpapers and data migration tools they have
worked on should definitely be mentioned.

Include a few screenshots, and make it about 1-2 pages, 3 pages at most
(that's on the dot - which fits far less text on a page than open office!).
You can use html  (a href, b, I, H2 etc) but if you don't that's OK. We'll
edit it, make sure language fits the dot etc, and format pictures and stuff.
In other words, don't worry about making everything perfect - we have a good
team of editors, and if we make changes you might dislike we'll ask you about
it so you're in control.

Let me know a timeframe you think you need to finish it.

Again, can I say it's cool you're willing to do this?

Cheers,

Jos

Give Nepomuk a mention too of course. I haven't started on my article yet, but
I'll probably look at what's arrived with this release in detail (try and
explain how you actually used the new capabilities) and try and get some
comments on what's still to come. You can at least list the new features
without any danger of duplication.

A few other things you might want to look at (things I'd like to know about
really :-) I guess you use Mandriva so are in a position to do this?) are:

- Phonon integration with pulse audio (I have an idea I saw a blog post on the
planet about this for info)
- Plymouth, if Mandriva have integrated it nicely with KDM - i.e. is the
transition from Plymouth to KDM smooth? You still get a flash of a black screen
with Plymouth->KDM on Fedora, but not with Plymouth->GDM. If they've just
added it without KDE integration then it's not really that interesting.
- Significant apps being updated to KDE 4 versions - I have an idea that the
KDE 4 version of k3b is now default? How about Kaffeine etc?

Of course, these are just some ideas - focus on whatever you find interesting.

Good luck and thanks for offering to expand your article.

Cheers,
Stu

Hi Jos,
My apologies for the late reply. Unfortunately, I have been caught up
with some pressing personal issue...and won't be able to start on the
article atleast for the next 1-2 weeks. My sincere apologies on this
:(

Hi Anshul,

That is unfortunate, however, if you're still willing to do it I would go a little more 'review' style and it'd be great.

cheers,

jos
