The current stable station of GnuPG is 1.4.9. that you can find and
download at <http://macgpg.sourceforge.net/#files>.

Both versions can be installed in the same computer, side by side.

For Mac users, Benjamin Donnachie has created and maintains the
GnuPG/MacGPG2 project <http://macgpg2.wiki.sourceforge.net/>, where you
will find information and answers to your queries.

It has its own mailing list
<https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/macgpg2-users>. If you
intend to use MacGPG2, that I recommend, you might want to join that
mailing list.

MacGPG2 is recommended for all Mac users.

In your case, since you are running Apple's Mail with the GPGMail mail
bundle, GPGMail will select by default gpg2, provided the latter is
installed and running in your system.

Welcome to MacGPG2.
Charly

Thank you.

Is it safe then to uninstall GnuPG 1.4.x after having intalled 2.x ? But, over
all, how to uninstall this older version ?

Best

Hi Salvino,

Your message to the list seems to have been composed using:
X-Mailer: Microsoft Office Outlook 11. To the best of my knowledge,
that's a Windows based e-mail-cum-calendar application released in 2003.

I can only guess that there must be somewhere a plug-in that will
provide interaction between Outlook and an installed version of GnuPG,
but that's not in the purview of this forum.

There is no need to uninstall GnuPG 1.4.* after of before installing gpg2.

Both versions can run side by side, without interfering with each other.

In the Mac platform, there are, among others, e-mail clients like
Apple's Mail and Thunderbird that interact with GnuPG through plug-ins
or MailBundles.

Apple's Mail + GPGMail mailbundle = GPGMail will default to gpg2, if the
latter is installed and running, otherwise it will default to gpg.
A recent version of GPGPreferences (beta) enables to switch Mails from
one version of gpg to the other, if both are installed.

Thunderbird+Enigmail can be make to choose the path to gpg or gpg2.

It is therefore convenient, but not mandatory, to have both gpg and gpg2
installed and running.

As I posted previously, if you are interested in running gpg2 on a MacOS
X platform, please consult the GnuPG/MacGPG2 Project:
<http://macgpg2.wiki.sourceforge.net/>
and eventually subscribe to the GnuPGMacGPG2 mailing list:

Charly
