You can create an Applications folder in each /Users/{UserX} folder
and put your application in there. Makes for multiple copies of your
app on the machine, but at least you should be able to use the version
of 4D that you want to use.
I had to do this in a couple situations to avoid -5000 errors on OS X
when putting our 4D Client in the system Applications folder.
