Thanks much for your responses describing scalability (all).

I have not yet set up an Apache web server.

It appears that Apache web server has built-in load balancing for back-end
web servers:
http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/mod_proxy_balancer.html

This should satisfy my client's concerns for scalability.
