It's fixed now.
I don't know if this will help anybody, but all I did was remove the files from the ~Library/Preferences/SmartCVS/7/metacache/r0 directory. These seemed likely candidates to get corrupted, and I assumed SmartCVS would just create new ones next time I launched it, which it did.
I wish all my problems could be solved this easily. :-)

Well, 7.0.6 isn't working either, so I guess it's not an issue with the new version.
Also, while I can't see the remote state, update still works, so at least I can get updated files. The trouble is, I like to know what's going to be updated so I can review changes to any files I'm working on and merge them manually. If I let CVS do merges it often makes a complete mess of things. Right now the only way I can do this is to get the log for each file, which is a little laborious.
So I need some help fixing this. Probably one of the files in Preferences is corrupted, but I'm really not excited about the idea of trashing everything in there and setting it all up again. Which preference file should I be looking at?

I think there's a problem with this version.
First, it isn't displaying anything in the remote state column. If I refresh the remote state it show the usual progress bar, then shows "latest" in the status bar. Friday I checked out a fresh copy of a project I'm working on, and over the weekend I noticed some differences between it and the previous copy, however, both appear to be up to date. Now, this morning, I'm checking the logs for a few files I've been having problems with, and it's clear that neither repository is really up to date.
I'm going to switch back to 7.0.6 and see if that works better, but I wanted to see if anyone else is having this problem..
I'm using the "professional" version for Mac OS X.
