SmartCVS uses the 'cvs history' command to quickly detect changed files in the
repository. Unfortunately, this information is not enough to detect all
repository changes (e.g. add/remove tag). So if you have mysterious problems
with the remote state, try a Query|Refresh Meta-Cache which performs an
expensive 'cvs rlog'.
