Very cool. Well done!  Slow down. You're making me look bad. I'm getting
pressure down here to start up my Ghost Town workshops again...

I sent the link to my brother in law and sister in law who farm at Sovereign. I think they may own the elevator . . .

That is a really nice collection of ghost towns. I hope you are planning to put them together into a book.  I have to say though that it is sad to see the number of ghost towns. I also like checking out abandoned home steads. Often the owners tear down the houses intentionally for safety reasons and the farmers who then lease the farm land use the home stead to store farm machinery. Got to be a bit sneaky on site.

Good news / bad news. Good news is Canon reworked their 100 Macro into a 100 "L" macro with IS. Assuming they keep the same optics, this should be one of their best lenses ever. However it looks like the new Canon 7D, inspite of all the great features and resonable price, will not have an articulated screen. Darn it!

Thanks Kyle, I heard that macro will be MUCH more expensive so its out for me.
If the rupoured price of the 7D (1999 cnd) is correct I will pre-order one right away.
I guess we'll know tomorrow.

Just checked out the new Canon 100mm Macro.  $1150.00 CDN doesn't seem
too bad for a f2.8 "L" lens with USM. And $1999.00 for the 7D seems like
Canon is trying to make up for the disappointing 50D (compared to the 40D).
www.dpreview.com already has the review.
Interesting to see the price of the old 100mm Macro dropping already.

I can't comment about the "L" lenses -- OK, I can, but I won't :-) :-)

I haven't gone beyond the Pentax K20D (yet) but I have the 40 and 70 Limiteds, the 100Macro and that newer 200 lens and the sharpness of all of these is amazing to me.  When I first tried the 200 as a loaner, it blew me away, but so did the price, but time went by and I got it for a real good price.  There "might" be some sharper lenses out there, but my poor old eyes would never appreciate it.

Seems to be some speculation that introduction of the new Canon D7 just might force down the price of the K7D.  Some people seem to like the smaller size of the K7D (compared to the 10 and 20) but camera size is way down on my priorities list, in fact I like to attach the battery grip so the camera has a bit more heft to it.

Going to be hiking through the sand dumes at Spruce Woods Provincial Park this weekend and plan to carry at least two cameras and a few lenses (the 4 mentioned earlier) plus a manual lens or two just for fun.  Picked up some slide film so maybe I'll take the old PZ1 out for some exercise too :-)

Regards,

Greg

Looking up at the moon tonight I noticed a very very bright star next to it. Turns out it is Jupiter. Very cool. Just in case there are some astronomy fans on this list. But then I quess if they were then they would know this already. sorry.
I wonder if it would work to duct tape my camera to one of those el-cheepo Celestron tracking telescopes and take a "tracked" long exposure? Things that make me go humm..

Kyle, your note reminded me of a document I copied from a magazine many
years ago (1997!) for a manual star tracking device.  Of course, despite
good intentions nothing ever got built.  Maybe you will have better luck.

Let me know if the attached pdf doesn't pass through email, I will send it
directly.
