Better than waiting to see if they come, how about setting a "trap" so to speak so when a bear does show up, he/she gets a bitter reception, like a snout of pepper spray or amounia(sp?). This would provide negative re-enforcement that these humans are no fun and should be avoided!

By the way, after my bear encounter I went out and bought a "Bear Bell" for hiking solo and soon to get some bear pepper spray.
