I haven't seen it, either, really, and I'm fine if this discussion leads to changes, but doesn't that just mean that people aren't following the rules as they're set forth on the wiki? I mean, if you saw a remaster and an original release under an artist that have the same tracks, would you merge them? Or would you follow what it says on
http://wiki.musicbrainz.org/HowToMergeReleases ?
It's frustrating to get notes and no votes berating one for not following the rules, and then run into problems with people citing "I've only seen it done this way" or "I got voted down when I tried this" instead of actual guidelines and whatnot. If people are going to vote something up or down, it should be because of official guidelines, otherwise, what's the point of having them? This goes for more than just this one instance.
(Also, I don't see how classifying a specifc release as being a remaster is outside the scope of MBz when we have an AdvancedRelationship just for that purpose)
