Thanks, but this is not working.
The GNU assembler manpages do not indicate that 'as' knows this option.
Which version are you using?
My gcc versions and assembler versions are:
gcc version 3.4.4 20050721 (Red Hat 3.4.4-2)
GNU assembler version 2.15.92.0.2 (i386-redhat-linux) using BFD version
2.15.92.0.2 20040927
