Searching for 'libgconf' doesn't turn up any other tickets except mine.

I was having issues on etch as well, although not identical, but upgraded
to lenny since I needed to do that anyway, hoping that it was just a
matter of using old libraries.

Thanks for your responses.  I'll see how much further I get today.
