Lyn,
Currently, I know of two cross-platform
open-source MobileGIS efforts:
Although, there are more listed on the Mobile Solutions
site, most (if not all) are Navigation apps, not data collection apps (like
ESRI's ArcPad). Of course I expect the demand for a data viewer to be
greater than a data capture tool.
My thought is to use Mateusz's WinCE ported libraries and
wrap a wxEmbedded GUI around them (dunno where the GIS functionality will come
from, GEOS? other?...). The result should be a platform independant (well,
Windows and Linux anyways) GIS Data capture/ Navigation application,
scalable from an iPaq (what! no cellphone or iPod app? ) to a tablet or
desktop computer.

devices
Hi Brent,
I saw your post on the MapTools list on
October 2.
Are you starting up an Open Source group for GIS on
mobile devices? I would like to contribute as a developer. Here is my
brief
1999-2000: GPS/INS systems for honours thesis in
university. (Matlab/C)
2000-2001: Embedded Systems (RTOS C) / Wireless
protocol for trains (Java2)
2001-2005: Intergraph GeoMedia
customisation (VB6)/ ENVI customisation (IDL) / Bluetooth connectivity for
IntelliWhere OnDemand (eVB)
2006-present: Autodesk Map3D /
MapGuide.
Let me know if I can contribute - on the weekends!
=)
Cheers,
Lyn.
