With Familiar, you have a developing, changing operating system that
will allow you to keep upgrading to newer, better software. With
windoze you are pretty much stuck with what you have. You have two
different choices of GUI (Opie and GPE) with Familiar. The package
management system is probably the best thing about it in my opinion --
you have tons of software available to be downloaded and installed
directly from your network connection on your iPAQ. And what you don't
like you can change -- its open source ;)
Finally, the support available with Familiar is great. You've got an
entire community to bounce questions and ideas off of, not to mention
all of the other information already posted on the web.
This might be a little bias, I am a Linux "junkie" if you couldn't tell.
If you're not a Linux user and you want to see some of the same
functionality (with a different interface of course), I would suggest
trying out one of the good live cd's on a PC (such as Knoppix) to see if
you like the whole Linux idea before you do any installing.
