It looks like you’re using libguile from Guile 1.8 (otherwise you’d have
only “yes” above), perhaps with /usr/bin/guile from Guile 2.0.

Oh, I am an idiot. I installed guile 2 and assumed guile 1.8 would somehow
disappear. Clearing out guile 1.8 packages solved the problem. Thanks for
your help.
