That's okay.  Novice level Linux is much better than no Linux at all.
:-)  Well, from time to time I run FreeBSD or Solaris instead of
Linux.

If the dependencies are compatible the 3.06 Hercules Lenny Debian
package might work on Ubuntu:

http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/pool/main/h/hercules/hercules_3.06-1_i386.deb

If not, I might be persuaded to install Ubuntu under VirtualBox and
create a 3.06 Hercules .deb package.  I've only run Ubuntu, Xubuntu
actually, briefly under a VM once and never tried building packages on
it.  I've rebuilt various packages, including Hercules, on Debian from
time to time back when I was running it.  This week I'm running
Slackware.  :-)
