I have the same problem,
works fine in 2.7 but 2.8 tabs are failing.
The previously made suggestions haven't worked for me.
I am using the following :
function init_my_script() {
jQuery(document).ready( function() {
create_ui_tabs();
} );
}
function create_ui_tabs() {
jQuery('#mytabsnav').tabs({ fxFade: true, fxSpeed: 'fast' });
}
init_my_script();
The above script actually loads into mid body.
The jquery-ui-tabs script is loading into the footer;
