Having to create a login for the csound list and for nabble was too much for me.
Meanwhile, having had to completely re-install the software on the Asus eeepc900 because my attempts to upgrade it using synaptic broke it I now know the following:-
when installing or updating packages using the debian unstable repository (which is where csound5 is) if the package wants to make major changes don't install it!
A few packages don't have any dependencies.
At the moment csound, csound-gui, and csound-utils only update or install a few packages, and csound5GUI works!
