sudo often removes environment variables for security reasons, so you
might either have to do:
sudo su
. /usr/GNUstep/System/Library/Makefiles/GNUstep.sh
make install
or
sudo make GNUSTEP_MAKEFILES=/usr/GNUstep/System/Library/Makefiles
