First, I hope you went through
http://misterhouse.wikispaces.com/Insteon
I updated it with a *lot* of information, so if you go through it, you'll
find most of the info you need there.

> My /dev directory does not have an insteon subdirectory.  Hoe do you created and what files does it contain?

That was one kind of implied, although the doc above shows (at the bottom,
which is kind of late if you needed it earlier on):

1. Device (-d /dev/insteon): /dev/insteon is a symlink to the serial port
your plm is on, like /dev/ttyS6 or /dev/ttyUSB1

Hope this helps,
Marc

You didn't read http://misterhouse.wikispaces.com/Insteon#toc24 which is
what I sent to you.
It shows how to make sure your PLM works and lets you try all your serial
ports if you have several.

If somehow the link isn't working right for you, look for the
plmtty -d /dev/insteon
line and the "/dev/insteon is a symlink to the serial port your plm is on,
like /dev/ttyS6 or /dev/ttyUSB1"

Obviously, you don't need to make a symlink if you don't know what the
device is, just replace /dev/insteon with the test device until you do.

You don't say what you tried with.
Did you try plmtty as shown in that section?

This is what I get when I select the right port, without typing anything:
gargamel:~# plmtty -d /dev/insteon
0ED9EE03057206

Did you plug into a physical serial port or a USB-serial adapter?

Thank you, got two things solve.

I did :plmtty -d /dev/ttyS0

and got
0D4F9203056306

the first six digits are my plm hex code 0d.4f.92 so i finally know is communicating and through the porr ttyS0.

As for the simlink, I just took your advice and eliminated.

Now with this should i be able to control the switchlincs in my house, whitout getting ye t to Misterhouse? how do i do that?

Uh? ln -s /dev/ttyS0 /dev/insteon is pretty easy, but your call.

Read yet the same section again:
http://misterhouse.wikispaces.com/Insteon#toc24

but honestly, it's error prone and you won't get very far. You're better off
using mh from now on.
