The change to red was a purposeful change - it was as a result to
switching to newer Mac APIs and therefore ends up being similar to the
way Mail.app shows their icons.

There is one bug at the moment which will be fixed in today's nightly -
when you get down to zero unread messages, it won't clear the
indication, so you could be left with a bigger number than expected (or
even just '1').

By default, The count should otherwise match the count of unread
messages in all your inbox folders, RSS and Newsgroups. The RSS and
Newsgroups is a bug as well. There's a preference to change it to cover
all folders - mail.notification.count.inbox_only.
