Re: Memory/OS/Version

Hello all...
Allan Yuan, thanks for your answer.
Actually, I'm already using the UMAT. The only problem is that I'm unhappy that Abaqus is using only 3Gb (the 32-bit limit), while my notebook has 6Gb and operates on 64-bit.
Abaqus had shown different error messages. Once it said that I should be using a 64-bit hardware. There's no need to say I'm using it.
On another trial, he said that 3Gb is the limit for 32-bit software.
When try to use more than 3072mb in the job, it just ends with error and no message.
A hint, a clue to my problem should be the file I run to use the sub-routines - the ifortvars.bat from IA32 directory, although, there's no problem with my compiler.
If someone could tell me how to use more memory, I'd really appreciate.

And, again, how about Abaqus 6.9.1? What are the advantages?
Best wishes...

Hi.
first of all, both 6.7.1 and 6.9.1 should work. There are differences on
several simulation scenarios, but should be no difference on support for
windows vista os.

To run UMAT, there are several steps you've to finish:

First, you've to make sure that your computer hardware is supported by
Abaqus. Please consult the web, or local office of Abaqus or your hardware.

Second, you've to make sure that Visual Studio and Intel Frotran are
correctly installed. Configurations should be different for 64 bit OS than
32 bit ones. Please consult the web, or Microsoft and Intel to make sure.

Last, you've to make sure your OS environment variables are well set. Make
sure that your've using corrcect version of IFORT.EXE, LINK.EXE, and related
LIBs.

I guess you problems may root in the Abaqus version. You should use win86_64
install files. Please chech your product CDs. Environment variables should
also be checked to make sure that they're 64 bit versions.

Hope it helps.

Best regards,
