David,

I have several databases running with Active4D and have never seen  
that A4D does slow down a PC/Mac or causes any harm. You should ask 4D  
what they are logging. There is (an old) TechNote database which  
analyses the log. Maybe Brendan didn't hide it away and you get an  
hold of it.
