Thank you for the reply, Christian
1. But no matter what the explanation is, PLEASED would everyone
just place the Installer files where they should be, like it was
in years past ?
After hunting for an hour for the one file that Andre and others
say is one of the "main" files, the
OOo_3.0.0rc1_20080904_Win32Intel_install_en-US.exe file should
not be this hard to locate -- which is now all the way in another
directory (why?? what's gained ??).
Just put it back the way and location it always was, with the
others. How it is now, you all are NOT helping ourselves or your
fellow users at all.
Yes, we realize that is is where the Beta and now RC files are
going to be until OOo 3 debuts as a live application to the
world, but this is still not right, it's not intuitive, and it's
really counter-productive.
2. As of OOo_3.0.0rc1_20080904:
It may be a Win32Intel_install_en-US.exe problem or idea, but
it took an hour to make the JVM update from www.java.com and make
it "work" with OOo_3.0.0rc1, all just because like many users, we
had the past 1.6.0 Release 6 instead of JVM 1.6.0 Release 7 on
the target machines.
There has to be a better way to advise users that whether or not
they are new users or coming from OO0 2.xx over to OOo 3, that as
OOo 3 installs, it should test and advise users if the JVM needs
updating, or at least advises clearly that OOo 3.0 demands the
absolute latest 1.60.0 R7 JVM, or nothing much in OOo 3 works at all.
Finding out AFTER OO0 3.0 installs is and will cause user
confusion, lost hours and angry calls to support peoples. In our
case, Presentation would not work right, especially the
JavaScript-to-Web feature, etc.
2a. PLUS, the user is never told that THEY have to switch ON the
JVM they want(!) so that a little green "light" shows to the left
under Options, etc.
Is this for real?
