This message indicates that the u-boot environment partition in nand
is missing or corrupt.
The environment partition is written as part of the Gumstix
manufacturing process, so you should not get it unless you have
explicitly overwritten it.
And since you can't type commands, that seems unlikely!
It also seems strange that you see the boot progress to a login screen
on the console, yet see nothing on the hdmi display.
Both of these symptoms indicate hw gone bad to me.
