I had the same problem with my Overo Fire / Summit setup since I got it last week.  I finally realized the absurd nature of my problem... Looks like whoever built my Summit board (rev.2430) neglected to populate IC3, which is used to buffer the RXD signal form the console FTDI chip back the the OMAP UART.   So nothing is connected to the OMAP RXD at all.  I can see a proper waveform when i type into the terminal session on my laptop and probe pad 2, where the buffer is supposed to be.  Looks like circuit is designed to show the OMAP RXD a high impedence when you arent plugged in to a console.  I just jumped pad 2 to pad 4 and now the console works like it should.  I can finally login with kermit and do stuff.

This (particular thing) is not a problem with the rev.2430 layout, just some batch of assembled boards from what I can assume.

Hi,

Received the new Overo and Summit, and have just had a chance to give it
all a go.

Following the instructions at
http://www.gumstix.net/Software/view/Software-Overo/Getting-started/111.
html (Getting Started), I was pleased to see it all boot and configure a
lot of stuff, after which it produced the Angstrom banner and login
prompt.

Slightly disappointed to find that it's not accepting any keyboard
input, though, so I can't login.

I've checked the console settings, used both kermit and minicom, tried
three other USB b-A cables. Same result each time.

Is there an additional step that I need to perform, or is it RMA time?

Many thanks,

James
