We are still in the initial phase of development. 6.0 should be available to try out on
trac.vtiger.com svn, in 6-8 weeks time from now.

Yes, vtiger 6 will use the jQuery's Datepicker for all date fields. Also, we will be replacing popups with auto-fill text fields.
We expect to get mobile friendly themes based on the new UI framework, in 2 to 3 months after the release (we expect to release vtiger 6 in July/August).
We have now put up the vtiger 6 screens on the wiki. I'll send a separate email with the link.
