Re: Re: Re: Re: RE : RE: Re: Re: RE : Re: RE : Re:Re: RE : Re: RE : Evolution of this mailing list, or second tool to communicate ?
Hi !
Some news about the forum :) After few searches, 4 solutions sounded good : - Drupal (CMS), with native forum and modules for mail integration - Drupal, with an external integrated forum (phpbb2 or smf), and modules for mail integration - Jive Forums, with native email integration - Phpbb2, with a mail integration modification I'm not a fan of phpbb2 forums, because they're a bit heavy, and uneasy to maintain/customize. However, the phpbb2 solution seemed to work quite well. (Drupal native forum is too poor, integrate an external forum in drupal seems complicated, and I had no response from Jive salesmen). However, in order to structure the forum and integrate the mail-list, it will be necessary to structure the mail-list as well. Which means 1 category = 1 mail-list => there will be, for example, petals-user-install@..., petals-user-components@..., petals-user-tools, etc.... At the beginning, I wanted to try several categories, a bit randomly, then change them, merge, create new ones... depending on their use. But with 1forum=1ml, it will be a bit more rigid. So, what do you think of current the current forum classification ? Do you think categories are ok ? What would you change ? And to finish, are you ok with this system (phpbb2+mail2forum+users-mail-lists) ? RE : Re: Evolution of this mailing list, or second tool to communicate ?Mathieu,
I think that you should remove all references to EBMWebsourcing: If you reference EBMWebsourcing, you should reference all others companies of PEtALS community members. You can reference this forum on the EBM's website. I have already made the same remark about the PEtALS's website.
Categories seems to me OK . _______________________________________________________________________________

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: RE : RE: Re: Re: RE : Re: RE : Re:Re: RE : Re: RE : Evolution of this mailing list, or second tool to communicate ?Hi,
I think that it is quite boring to subsribe to many mailing list ! We need to keep a single mailing list. I think that they are some tools where the forum topic is specified in the mail subject ([install] XXX) : - When sending a mail to petals-users@..., if the mail subject is '[install] XXX' then write in forum/install - When writing a message on the forum, if the message belongs to the install category, send a mail to petals-users@... with subject '[install] XXX' So I think that a forum is nice but we can not force users to subscribe to all of these mailing lists. If they are free tools for open source community projects we must ask to OW2 to try to get these tools. If you have already some products names, send them to me, I will ask OW2 support if they can do something for us. Christophe 2008/7/30 Mathieu <mathieu.lebreton@...>

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: RE : RE: Re: Re: RE : Re: RE : Re:Re: RE : Re: RE : Evolution of this mailing list, or second tool to communicate ?We'll continue on a private speech :) Cristophe (Hamerling), we should definitely have another talk internally. I though OW2 was far too slow to change their tools, an that you already asked them several times to change softwares. If it comes in 6 months, that's -I think- far too much. There are solutions I can see : - Use tags in title => Drupal can do that (For Jive forums, in Open Solaris example, it's 1forum=1ml, so I think they don't use tags) - Use few categories, so few mailing lists - Integrate only a part of the forum with mailing-list => few mailing lists - Use one main mail-list, and create a small script to transfer it on specific mail-lists, depending on title's tag. (for example, and that's just example, gmail can handle filters and redirect emails depending on title content) Does someone see other solutions ? Which one do you prefer ? RE : Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: RE : RE: Re: Re: RE : Re: RE : Re:Re: RE : Re: RE : Evolution of this mailing list, or second tool to communicate ?I think that an other solution could be to create communities in Drupal instead categories in a forum. So you can be able, for each community, to have:
- CMS,
- mailing list,
- wiki,
- blog,
- search engine,
- ..
We use Drupal for our (Capgemini Group) knowledge management system (http://drupal.org/node/267282). It is very pleasant and professional.
It could be the PEtALS's CMS.

Re: RE : Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: RE : RE: Re: Re:RE : Re: RE : Re:Re: RE : Re: RE : Evolution of this mailing list, or second tool to communicate ?
Personally, I would love a CMS-based PEtALS website.
But that's another story, one thing a a time or I'll die... Current static html pages have their own advantages, as well. However, I can't really understand how to replace forum -or mailing list- by a CMS. For me, it's not the same use... Drupal has an integrated forum, but it has few specific forum features, and is not optimized as a forum. For wiki, blog, etc. It means creating and maintaining more content. (If you want your own blog at PEtALS, you'll be more than welcome !). Once we have a large amount of content (I suppose it's the case at CapGem), that's great. For now we're just content-beggers ^^ So let's focus on few systems. We've also talked with Christophe (Chamerling), and I had a valuable email from Vincent Zurckzak. For now, forum will be separated from mailing-list (until we can make a script to recognize tags) But you can suscribe to the categories you want, as a mailing-list, which means : Receive talks by email, respond to those talk by email, and create talks by email. All that should be ready the day after tomorrow :) Regards Mathieu Deneux, Christophe a écrit :
