Hi All ,
This is my second posting and I have a question, what is all this talk
about last sail for the year? I'm looking for to sailing in below 90 degree
weather! (Florida does have it's advantages)
Have to wait until I finish the new paint job, will post pictures when
finished.

Our sailing season has no beginning and no end, as long as you dress warm enough to keep your end warm.  Head, fingers and toes are what you really need to keep warm.  I wear less clothes sailing in 40 degree weather than I wear skiing.  I am paranoid about hypothermia so I'm ridicuously careful about not falling in the water.  However, it does takes more effort jump out of the cockpit than to remain in it.

Biggest downside to winter sailing is that my outboard doesn't want to start in cold weather.

Lee,

We used to sail well into December, sometimes through the winter.  My hands can't handle the cold & wet anymore due to my Raynaud's syndrome.  We used to have lots of fun and were never afraid of hypothermia - we were invincible, then.  Good luck and stay warm.  That picture sure does look depressing.

Hey Mike;

I heard that Reynaud's is sometimes treated with Viagra. Hmmm. As the ads say, ask your doctor. That could be a more exciting sail than you imagined.

Happy Winter;

Lee, Mike

I was out with the wife and our 21yr old autistic boy, Max yesterday
on Rockaway Inlet.  With a nice N/NW breeze we ran south out of Mill
Basin into Rockaway Inlet and the breeze quickly picked up.  I have
a  WINDMATE now and I recorded a fresh breeze of 13 knots of gusts
going to almost NOTHING  within a few minutes!
My main was reefed to my first batten. I have the old type roller
boom and my headsail was out a bit too far, all the way to the upper
stays.  Maybe those breezes were gusting past 13 when I felt them but
I was the only small sailboat out yesterday.   The  fresh breeze
brought the wind chill right now to the uncomfortable level real
quick!  I wanted to keep her in the water all winter and without a
cover I wouldve had to tarp her, but instead I m hauling out on Nov 3.

when was that picture taken with the boat covered in snow?

safe sails

Lou,

I think that picture was taken the 1st day of March last year.  We
typically don't get snow after February.  Must have had something to do
with global warming.

The  fresh breeze
brought the wind chill right now to the uncomfortable level real
quick!  I wanted to keep her in the water all winter and without a
cover I wouldve had to tarp her, but instead I m hauling out on Nov 3.

when was that picture taken with the boat covered in snow?

safe sails
