- Mostly of the GPE updates are bugfixes for that device.
- There're two icon themes: Gartoon (upload into GPE web) and Tango (I'm going
   to upload it into subversion)
- I'm going to publish a development guide for GPE, ie, all the steps you need
to build and run all the GPE apps from scratch and test it on PC

There're features requested for some apps, such as (GPE-Calendar), add
new features is not easy if you don't know GTK structure...

Have you sugestion for new apps?

That sounds interesting, something to look forward too.

This sounds like it would be very useful, if you want someone to proof read a few
chapters and get some feed back from someone who's not a GPE developer (but
wouldn't mind helpping to fix a few of the easier bugs I come across). Feel free to
send me a link/copy of your work in progress.

GTK is something I would like to get more involved with (but not really done much with
so far), but would be interesting to see the requests, are they all in the bug tracker or
is there a wiki page with the more practical suggestions listed?

> Have you sugestion for new apps?

If I had to make some suggestions I would say some kind of GPS/open street map
program (if it doesn't already exist). But from my last experience of GPE the browser
didn't work (might of been a dodgy snapshot of the svn I was using I can't remember)
which is fairly critical as personally (and I expect this is the same for others) internet
browsing is a fairly critical part of a mobile device.
Also the instant messanging client might benefict from moving to the telepathy
framework and having a GPE specific front end written, and though I've not used it I've
heard on the maemo planet some interesting things about the tinymail email backend
which might be interesting to look at. Finally I know that the openmoko people have
been working on a opkg package format in the past which might be worth looking into if
the GPE package manager doesn't yet support the format.

So I guess what I'm saying is that while I can't think of many new apps I can see a lot
of advances in backends that GPE isn't taking advantage of. However to answer this
question fully I would have to load up GPE and critically look at each piece of software
making notes on a wiki/email.

I do appreciate what the GPE developers have done, it must have taken a lot of work to
get GPE to it's current state where it is usable, but I also see that it's lacking the
finishing touches and polish to make it look the part, and (more importantly) fulfill it's
functions better.

Sorry if any of this seems a bit arrogant/unresearched I was posting here as i was
curious what people are working on/towards so I haven't researched or critically
examined GPE enough to make an accurate review or check of the feasibility of those
suggestions.

Thanks for the quick response,
Daniel
