I wouldn't recommend you adopt Facelets
if you are looking for additional functionality. The current version
of Facelets is very good and stable. That said, there are some open
defects that aren't being addressed (you can browse the project issues
to get a sense for the pace of bug fixes).
The JSF 2.0 Expert Group is seriously
considering incorporating something very similar to Facelets in JSF 2.0.
I presume that the developers of Facelets (primarily Jacob Hookum
and Adam Winer) would be working on that specification and implementation.
Perhaps with Facelets as a starting point.
If you are considering JSF 2.0, then
I would strongly, strongly recommend Facelets over JSP. There are
so many defects in the JSP/JSF integration that Facelets is 1000% better.
JSP 2.1 is supposedly much better, but still not as good as Facelets.
I've been on this mailing list for a
while now. In general, there doesn't appear to be much active development
of Facelets. The dev team isn't super active on the mailing list
anymore, but there is a very nice community of Facelets users that will
help you out if you have questions.
This is all my opinion and conjecture,
but I hope it gives you some more information to help you make your decision.

I totally agree.
We're evaluating the framework
right now and the lack of information regarding the future is my major
concern.

For those of us evaluating facelets for recommendation for use in our organizations
it is troubling that questions such as these regarding the status/roadmap
of facelets go unanswered. Can anyone please provide some reassurance
and updates?
