At least from what I can see on the controller bios, no. The bonnie++
results would speak against it, too. Unfortunately, amrctl(8) output is not
detailed enough.

The load certainly goes away when I turn off nfsd.  ;)

Maybe I should do that, then run bonnie to check whether local disk
bandwidth has changed. Another item on the list...
