Hi

This may be a very simplistic solution and also may not work but would a PIR/pressure mat triggered prompt do the job. I was thinking that if, when you enter the bathroom a prompt is triggered which reminds you to shut the door, this could be a reasonably simple solution. Then once the door is shut either an automatic locking mechanism or some kind of external indication that the bathroom is in use could be triggered. It would mainly depend on whether a prompt would be sufficient to trigger the independent users to shut the door.

Thanks

Zoe

Subject: Shared Bathroom Issue

Dear All

I am working on the renovation of a respite service for people with learning disabilities in North Somerset.

Two of the bedrooms share a bathroom so we need to find a solution which will mean that if one person is accessing the bathroom it will prevent the person in the other room from entering.

The scheme will accommodate a number of people who will access the bathroom independently and others who will always have support to do this.

Where people can access the bathroom independently we can not guarantee that they will  understand that they need to shut the door in order to activate or release a locking mechanism.

The doors can not be automated as there will be a ceiling hoist put in place.

PIR use might not be possible as the hoist may be picked up as movement in the bathroom.

I would really appreciate any help with this and am more than happy to provide any additional information that you might need.

Thanks very much
