Hi Adam,
i run jruby scipts in my regular java apps on tomcat without problems,
things You can experiment with are:
-Xms
-Xmx
-XX:MaxPermSize
and for sure turn on -XX:+PrintGCDetails, but all of these are jdk
related not tomcat related.
