Not sure if you have a complete distro. Gnome terminal works fine on my
laptop. I can SSH into and out of it, as well as execute thunderbird
remotely. I don't remember which version of Ubuntu I started with on my
laptop, (64-bit AMD), but things pretty much work through several upgrades
