Brahmonews has forwarded a copy of a sermon titled "Universal Light :
The Brahmo Samaj" by the Unitarians of America. It is also available
at this link:

http://dcwi.com/~uuf/Sermons/012305.html

A few points in the sermon require to be corrected / highlighted for
the public record.

1) The author states "Today I'm going to talk with you about a
religion which is also a close cousin of ours.  The Brahmo Samaj of
India is important not only because it's our cousin – but because, in
looking at their path we can more clearly understand our own paths and
choices.". It is important to distinguish that it is the rump
Keshab-ite "Brahmo Samaj of India" which the author refers to
throughout this sermon, and not True Brahmoism.

2) The author states "The Brahmo Samaj was founded on this day in 1828
by Raja Ram Mohan Roy. " This is again a falsehood. As we all know,
the Raja founded the Atmiya Sabha in 1815, the Brahma Sabha in 1828
etc, but not the Brahmo Samaj. The Brahmo religion was founded in 1848
by Debendranath Thakur, and the Brahmo Samaj was only founded much
later in 1861 by Nabin Chunder Ray to propagate the Brahmo religion.

3) The sermon is replete with incorrect facts on Rammohan filched
from another Unitarian - Collet's book. The Raja was born in 1774 and
not in 1772. He did not go to Tibet.

4) "Before he left for England, Ram Mohan asked his friend Dwarakanath
Tagore to be steward to his fledging movement." This is an example of
the despicable Unitarian-Universalism propaganda which deifies
Rammohan to the exclusion of all others. True Brahmos know that
Dwarkanath was neither Rammohan's "friend" nor his "steward" but the
real backbone of the Brahmo movement. Without Dwarkanath we would not
have had Brahmoism. Much of Rammohun's writings were Dwarkanath's (who
like Shakespeare preferred that actors speak his lines). When
Dwarkanath sailed to England after Rammohan's death it was a
neccessary act of religious devotion.

5) The rest of the sermon is the usual UU propagada that Keshab
inherited the mantle of Brahmoism left behind by Rammohan etc.

The sermon is the usual Unitarian-Universalism propoganda and rattling
of dry old bones which so appeals to the Indian masses of False
Brahmoism.  This sermon should also serve as a litmus to winkle out
the False Brahmos in our midst.

Dear Mr. Jagannath Chatterjee ,
At least somebody or some organisation is bothered about our Brahmo Samaj  in US of  A  . We can do with some free publicity , never mind if "facts" are not 100% accurate . Let's count the positives . See the brighter side . View the glass half full than half empty . The Brahmo religion is gasping for some oxygen . We should welcome & inhale fresh air - never mind if it comes from the Keshubites or the UUs .

I agree that at this moment we need to move on......We may go on adding/ correcting what we know to be right but lets focus on the movement as a whole.
