Yeah I've realized that the two backslashes are normal. i think it's just an issue of tsvn not giving me the popup when there is an authentication issue. is it possible that this is a bug with 1.5?

The authentication is handled by the neon library. There's nothing TSVN
can do about that.
But AFAIK the authentication always had two backslashes?
Anyway: you should be able to fix this with the latest version of
mod_auth_sspi and then use the OMITDOMAIN flag.
