Alan,

Regarding CDN (Cloud Files for example on Rackspace/Mosso), I believe the benefit is not such much increasing bandwidth in general (such as your computer where your testing from).

I believe the issue is more like "Edge Computing"

As you grow, and especially as a contingency if you grow dramatically (not as likely in this Economy but there is a list of most sustainable Economies in the World).

The CDN if spread out enough, will make your media go through less routers to get to your Customer.

Some routers are slower than others, because of the Model, some have a lot of traffic going through them, and sometimes it just takes about 15 hops to get to your server from you customers site.

I haven't enable my Could Files on Rackspace/mosso yet, but can anyone give me an idea of the Costs I'll pay for about 10GB traffic per month, 20GB traffic per month, where in my account can I set a maximum so the Bill doesn't go skyrocketing (a contingency requirement) and what message could I display "Under maintenance..." :-)

I know this is a question for Rackspace and could calculate it from the fees, but I thought I'd ask someone, if there's anyone, how much it would COST, BECAUSE INEVITABLY I'd have to Activate my Cloud Server, is anyone using Rackspace Cloud Server or is it better to have a Dedicated Server?

I guess what I'm asking is if anyone out there is running a RED5 Server at Rackspace/Mosso, and what are your typical costs per month for how much bandwidth and do you see improvements?

HI All,
We are currently launching a new on-demand travel videos website.
Videos are in FVL format and playing through Red5 streaming server on a dedicated rackspace server in the US. We have this working and some people have reported excellant quality of delivery etc. However others have reported videos are stop/starting a lot. They have checked other video sites and they run perfectly. So we are wondering where exactly can we improve our site?
Out video are high quality 300-400mb videos, 24FPS. Audio: Sample Rate 22050, 32Kbit/sec, mono

Is Red5 the issue? Would moving the videos to CDN improve things much?
Ant other considerations we need to take into account on the users side?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

tks
