Using the API internally is useful in some cases, yes. If you're gonna
run a complex query the API happens to support, you're usually better
off using the API, to prevent code duplication. But while there are
bound to be places in the code where the API is used internally (which
doesn't have the HTTP overhead I mentioned earlier, my mistake) in the
core, in extensions and even in the API itself, there's no reason for
the core to systematically use the API for everything.
