Re: diskin, Manual updates and simplified version

Kind of rolling up responses into one message--several threads seem interrelated, pointing to a general clean-up of csound and the manual.

--On deprecated opcodes: If diskin1 is better, sure, deprecate diskin. It would be a nice addition to the Manual to have a list of all deprecated opcodes with references to what replaces them. This could be very helpful to anyone who needs to run an old orc.

--On the simplified version--forgive if I'm repeating a suggestion as I have not followed this thread closely. How about the ability to choose what gets installed? We will never come up with an EZ version that suits everyone, but a check list during installation where one could uncheck what is not needed might be a flexible solution--though I see the flaw that this assumes that you know enough about csound to know what you don't need.

--And ditto "thanks" to Fran for checking through the Manual

Dear John,

have you tried a note that exceeds the length of the soundfile? See Peimans note below. At least up to version 5.06 there was no crash when the note exceeded the length of the soundfile. Could you have another look? Or should we really deprecate diskin right away?

All the best,

Jan Jacob

I think that happens when the note value exceeds the length of the sound
file (not in loop mode).

Dear list,
there seems to be a bug in "diskin". Running my code with it leads to
a crash after about 2 hours of rendering. Changing to "diskin2" seems to
solve the problem. This concerns at least Mac OSX platforms.

Best,
Jan Jacob
